A fraudster, who cheated people using e-commerce platform OLX, walked into a trap laid by the city police.

Bhaskar, 32, native of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu is the suspect.

According to Wilson Garden police officer, Bhaskar would target people, who wanted to sell their Royal Enfield bikes on OLX. He would fix a date and take the bike documents. He would give them a cheque saying that he did not have enough cash to pay them.

But, when the customers went for the cheque clearance, there would not be cash in the bank account.

He had cheated three customers with the same modus operandi.

One of the customers wanted to sell his bike to arrange money for his wife’s treatment. The suspect took his signature for the transfer of vehicle documents and handed over a cheque and escaped.

Based on his complaint, the police lured the suspect through OLX on the pretext of selling a bike and arrested him when he came to get it. They also recovered three bikes from him.

He was arrested, produced before the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
