Last Updated 16 February 2013, 20:21 IST

The Rajagopalanagar police arrested a man on Saturday, on the charges of murdering his wife for having failed to deliver a baby boy.

The suspect, Venkatesh, a worker in an iron factory, is a resident of 6th Cross, Venkatayyana Vathara, Shambhavi Nagar, Laggere.

Police said Venkatesh was married to Vinutha, 23, who worked in a shoe factory in Rajagopalanagar, for six-and-half-years.

They hail from Nagamangala and have two daughters aged five and two.

Venkatesh and his wife came to Bangalore a few years ago, leaving behind his daughters with his parents. Later on, he shifted them to his in-laws’ place and never brought them to the City.

Often quaralled

He wished to have a baby boy and often quarrelled with his wife.

Vinutha was seven months’ pregnant and had stopped going to the factory. He picked a quarrel with her on Friday, when he came home for lunch.

In a fit of rage, he slit her throat with a knife and locked the house and went to work.
He returned in the night, opened the door and cried for help, claiming that his wife had been murdered.

His neighbours contacted the police who rushed to the spot.

Vinutha’s brother, who resides in Kengeri, told the police about Venkatesh’s differences with his wife.

The police arrested Venkatesh and the investigation is on.
