Jason D’Souza, 28, a resident of Yelahanka New Town allegedly running an unauthorised study centre, was arrested by RT Nagar police for cheating students by issuing them fake certificates.

According to police, Jason had advertised that his study centre – Ashirvad Vidya Kendra in HMT Layout, RT Nagar – was affiliated to various universities, boards and institutions of higher education, claiming to offer programmes sponsored by the Board of Secondary Education and Madhya Bharath Gwalior University. Many had enrolled for PU and appeared for exams.

They were issued fake certificates, the police said.

The cheating came to light after a student sought admission to graudation course in a City college, and her application was rejected after the college found her certificate fake. The student lodged a complaing with the police who conducted a probe and arrested Jason. During the course of investigation, it came to light that Jason had no permission to run the study centre and that it was not recognisedby any university or board in India. He had issued around 30 fake certificates, the police said.

City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar has urged parents and students to be cautious of such fake study centres. The authenticity of study centres could be verified at educational boards, he added.
