A 57-year-old pedestrian was killed on the spot while crossing a road by an over-speeding canter in Halasuru on Monday.

According to the police, the deceased, Ramesh, was a dwarf and the canter driver failed to notice him crossing the road and ran over him.

The police said that the accident took place at 1.30 pm at the Adarsha junction when Ramesh was walking to his home in Indiranagar from Murphy Town.

A speeding canter loaded with carrots, coming from Kolar and going towards the City Market area ran over Ramesh.

He was reportedly crossing the road from behind a parked auto-rickshaw.

A few men on bikes chased the canter and stopped it around 100 metres from the spot after which they called the police.

The police rushed to the spot and shifted Ramesh to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police seized the canter and arrested the driver, identified as Manjunath. The Halasuru traffic police have registered a case and are investigating further.
