Master resource persons to train PU lecturers

Following complaints about inadequate orientation to pre-university lecturers to cope with new syllabus for physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology last academic year, the Department of Pre- University Education (DPUE) has initiated a training programme early this time.

Based on the target fixed by the “result framework document”, the department is aiming at two per cent increase in the results and in the admissions to pre-university by at least 25,000 students. 

This year, students will study a new curriculum for commerce, electronics, computer science and home science. 

The department has begun training lecturers of all subjects, including a special training programme for principals. 

Though the department did conduct training to lecturers to orient them with the new science syllabus, designed on a par with the CBSE syllabus, lecturers, however, found themselves inadequate in handling the syllabus as the programme began only a few months ahead of the board exams, last year. 

DPUE Director Rame Gowda said that this year special attention would be given to colleges that fared poorly in 2014 PU examinations. “We will look into the reasons and focus on setting it right,” he said, adding that strengthening laboratories too would be part of the programme.

 As for training lecturers, in each subject, the department has identified 25 master resource persons. These persons will also train lecturers at district and divisional level. 

Currently, the DPUE is in the process of training master resource persons. Training is also being conducted for 1,764 newly recruited lecturers. 

The working strength of government PU college lecturers across the State is 11,000. Of this, the department hopes to train at least 5,000 lecturers
