Twelve people including four women suffered injuries while a dozen others escaped unhurt after a BMTC bus crashed with a flyover's side ramp and toppled on West of Chord Road in Rajajinagar on Wednesday morning.
One woman suffered fractures to her hand and is treated at the Intensive Care Unit while others are being treated for minor injuries at the KC General Hospital and Fortis Hospital in Malleswaram.
According to police, the accident happened around 10.45 am near 1st block Rajajinagar. The bus bearing registration number KA-01-FA-2309 was en route from Kaval Byrasandra towards Karnataka Housing Board, North Bengaluru. The bus route no 180-A, belonged to the Sumnahalli Depot and both the driver and the conductor were among the injured, the police said.
The bus was moving slowly when it hit the right side parapet wall of the flyover on the upper ramp and turned turtle. The Malleswaram traffic police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospitals.
Traffic movements were diverted through two alternative roads. The police had to use a crane to lift the bus and tow it away to clear the traffic on the flyover.
Additional Commissioner of Police P Harishekaran visited the spot and supervised towing away of the bus.
"One woman suffered grievous injury, while others had minor hurts. No children were involved in the accident," said Dr Soumyalatha SK, DCP, Traffic (West). A case has been registered and inquiries are underway by the police as to what caused the accident.
