Last Updated 03 May 2017, 21:00 IST

The Railways is gearing up to introduce a new train service between Mysuru and Bengaluru from May 13. With this, the long pending demand of employees, who are dependent on the rail service to commute between the two cities is likely to be fulfilled.

The new train will run between Ashokapuram Railway Station in Mysuru and Hubballi. The Mysuru-Hubbali train will leave Mysuru at 6 am to reach Krantiveere Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) station at 8.45 am and proceed to Hubballi from Bengaluru at 8.50 am. Similarly, the train leaving Hubballi reaches Bengaluru City station at 5.45 pm and Mysuru at 8.40 pm. Both the trains would halt at Mysuru railway station for 15 minutes before reaching Ashokapuram station. At present, people are dependent on Chamundi Express, which leaves Mysuru at 6.45 am.

Several employees, especially those working in unorganised sector, had been demanding additional train on this route. According to sources, approximately 15,000 people commute by trains between Mysuru and Bengaluru every day. Though the proposal for a new train was a nearly a decade old, the Railway ministry had approved it only last year. Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha is expected to launch the service on May 13.
