Accompanied by BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah and Chief Engineer (Lake Division) Satish, Justice Patil inspected Chinnappanahalli Lake in survey number 15 and Kaikondanahalli Lake and supervised development activities in the region.

The BBMP gave a facelift to Chinnappanahalli Lake, which was one of the most polluted lakes at a cost of Rs 1.7 crore. Sewage that was earlier let into the lake directly has now been diverted and a walkway and a tree park have been developed around the lake.

The committee members,  though seemed impressed with the beautification of lake, suggested the Palike officers to grow indigenous species instead of exotic plants and trees, thereby providing a safe habitat for birds.

Justice Patil planted a sapling at the tree park. However, a few local residents complained to Justice Patil that the Chinnappanahalli Lake has become a safe haven for anti-social elements and sought protection.

The core committee to conserve lakes was constituted in the wake of a PIL against encroachment of lakes in the City.
