Cubbon Park night patrol police have arrested two youths, who were attempting to escape after allegedly assaulting a hotel receptionist in a bid to rob him of his valuables late on Saturday night.

The suspects have been identified as Harish, 18 and Jayadev (name changed), a 17-year-old juvenile delinquent, both residents of BBMP quarters in Ashok Nagar. The two youths are students of first and second year PUC, respectively, at a reputed college near Richmond Town, police said.

“Chanko, a receptionist with Chancery Pavilion Hotel on Lavelle Road, was returning home after completing the day’s work.

Three youth accosted him and demanded him to hand over whatever valuables he had. When Chanko said that he did not have money or valuables with him, they stabbed him and tried to run away,” said the police.

“Chanko fell down and began crying for help. Police night patrol staff Chandru and Lakshman Pujari heard Chanko’s cries and saw the three youths trying to escape. They chased the three youths  and managed to capture two  — Harish and Jayadev,” police added.

The suspects were produced before court and were remanded in judicial custody. The police will seek custody of the two youths for interrogation.

Easy money

The boys told the police that they decided to commit robbery to make some quick money. They wanted to do so on Saturday night when they thought there would be more men on the streets.
