The psychology and home science departments of Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College held their fest titled ‘Synergy — A Recipe For A Good Life’ recently. ‘A Recipe For A Good Life’ was what the two departments sought this academic year as they came together to find that perfect recipe, through this joint fest.

The fest aspired to provide different forums to help students delve deep into themselves and give expression to varied facets of their selves. Dr Sangeeta Saxena, a medical professional and founder director of Enfold delivered the keynote address, providing her recipe for a good life.

A panel discussion titled ‘The Slut Walk — Provocation or Liberation’ set the tone for lively proceedings. The panelists were — Dr Sangeeta Saxena, Dr Sowrabha, sociologist, Rahul Bharjhatia, regional manager, Good Year Tyres, Yallina T, student counsellor.

Moderator Dr Vijayashri from the department of psychology started the discussion with a catchy visual and the discussion enlightened the audience on the different dimensions of the slut walk.

The discussion triggered vociferous responses from the student audience who collectively believed that they have the right to wear what they want and were aware of both the response and responsibility of it.

The panelists brought out different perspectives, ranging from the evolutionary trends of attire and the reasons that shape what we wear, the physiology of gender responses, to the need to dress appropriately to the context.

The departments put together a series of contests that attracted a host of participants.

The cookery contest titled ‘Snack ‘n’ Sip’ brought forth healthy recipes with oats as the main ingredient accompanied by a health drink. Everything from cakes and cookies to rice preparations and desserts adorned the table.

‘Mask-E-Rade — ‘Who Am I?’ elicited interesting masks that literally and figuratively defined the participants. The photography contest titled ‘Mobile Mania’ was candid camera in action which captured many an interesting slice of life on campus.

The ‘Treasure Hunt’ brought forth an excited bunch of treasure hunters who were not fazed by the daunting challenges before they finally laid hands on the treasure.

The on-stage event ‘P3 — Product, Promotion, Package’, had teams vying for honours with products that would be the perfect ‘Stress Buster’. From pills to potions to spas and fancy gadgets, they had it all. The ‘Story Telling’ session on paranormal phenomena, created goosebumps as the audience listened in rapt attention.

The ‘Personality Contest’, conducted in three rounds brought out the spontaneity and presence of mind of the contestants. The winners were Apoorva Mohan, Melania Wilson and Swathi Manohar.

The finale was a short film-making contest titled ‘BBO — Bishop Cotton Blockbuster’. Story, screenplay, direction and production, all of this and more came together in a creative melange as budding movie-makers strived to deliver a box office hit. The ‘Oscars’ went to Madhu and team of second year BA.  The second place was bagged by Rashida and team, of third year BSc.
