As a New Year gift, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday inaugurated a new shelter home in the West zone for homeless people.

The shelter home situated on Goods Shed Road near Majestic can accommodate close to 30 people. This new shelter home will be the second one to be run in the West zone.

Randeep D, additional commissioner (admin), BBMP inaugurated the home.

The civic body along with the members of Impact India Consortium and Dream India Network is conducting a survey across all zones to find out the number of homeless people in Bengaluru.

The survey, which is completed in West, South and East zone has identified more than 3,000 homeless people. About 1,526 people are found in West zone itself.

The Palike officials are also planning to increase the number of beds in the existing shelter home at Rajajinagar in order to accommodate at least 120 people from the zone.
