The staff nurses working under the National Rural Health Mission intensified their protest on Wednesday by launching an indefinite hunger strike.
More than 2,000 nurses have been staging a protest for the past eight days at Freedom Park in Bangalore, demanding regularisation of their services and a hike in salaries.
Nagaraj, the president of Staff Nurses’ Association, said that more than 15 nurses went on a huger strike on Wednesday and seven of them were admitted to hospital after their health deteriorated.
Meanwhile, the City police denied permission to protesters to take out a march from MG Road to Freedom Park.
