Students clear exam but face testing times

Thousand of students, who graduated from colleges affiliated to Bangalore University (BU), are worried over rumours about the varsity deciding to punish them for the mistake of their college managements.

A total of 84 colleges have yet to pay examination fees worth Rs 5.53 lakh from 2014-2018 to BU. As a result, the varsity is allegedly looking at extracting the amount by not printing the mark sheets of those colleges.

The varsity sent several notices to these erring colleges, reminding them about the pending fees. Despite that, the management of 84 colleges did not pay a single rupee, even though they have collected thousands of rupees from students as examination fees.

A student, who passed from one of the 84 colleges, wondered at the logic of the decision. “We have paid the fees. BU should take strict action against the managements of the colleges instead playing with our future. We request the BU officials to reconsider their decision,” she said on condition of anonymity.

A senior official from BU said the management decided “not to punish students for the mistake of the management and published the results”. “As the managements are still negligent, we have to find a solution for this,” said the official.

When contacted, BU Vice-Chancellor Venugopal KR said the varsity would directly deal with the management. “We will take the decision in such a way that student community is not affected,” said Venugopal. “We are going to send another notice to all the colleges and recover the pending amount. I assure that the students of all our affiliated colleges will get their mark sheets on time,” the VC said.
