Traffic chaos grips South Bengaluru as PM Modi inaugurates Namma Metro Yellow Line

Bengaluru: The Jayanagar locality of South Bengaluru witnessed major traffic congestion till 12.30 pm due to the inauguration of Namma Metro's Yellow Line by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Along with the main roads, the cross roads witnessed heavy traffic.

"Police are diverting us towards crossroads but they are congested as well,” said Nikhil, a resident of Jayanagar.

Even the roads that were not mentioned in the traffic advisories were blocked, leading to the frustration of commuters.

“The 36th Cross not mentioned in the advisory but now the police have pulled out barricades, the alternative road is blocked due to traffic. How can we possibly reroute?,” said Bhavana Gowda, an IT official passing through Jayanagar.

Though the prime minister travelled through the metro from the Ragigudda station, thousands of enthusiasts fans threw themselves at the empty convoy passing through Marenahalli Road towards Bommasandra. The outside of the Ragigudda Metro station was flooded with people.

A traffic official on duty said, “We have been here since 7 am and will be here till 2.30 pm. We had a rehearsal session yesterday. We had to stop people from walking towards the PM’s convoy . We are trying to use alternative routes.”

People trying to book cabs and autos had to face inconvenience. “I have been trying to book an auto for an hour now, as there are tons of diversions, auto drivers are cancelling the ride. A metro inauguration should not be this inconvenient to daily commuters,” said Preethi Hari, a resident of Jayanagar.
