<p>New Delhi: A delegation of <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/karnataka">Karnataka</a> BJP leaders led by Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/prahlad-joshi">Pralhad Joshi</a> on Thursday met Union Finance Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/nirmala-sitharaman">Nirmala Sitharaman</a> and urged her to release central funds for the Upper Bhadra project.</p><p>The leaders urged that despite the Rs 5,300 crore fund for the project was announced by the Centre, till now it was not released. The project work was totally stopped since the Congress government came to power in the state in 2023 due to shortage of money. Release of funds would help to expedite the project, the delegation urged the Minister.</p><p>The delegation was comprising of MPs Basavaraj Bommai, Govind Karjol, P C Gaddigouder, Sudhakar and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri.</p><p>Emerging from the meeting, Karjol told the media that the project is important for barran districts like Chitradurga. Through this project a total 2.3 lakh hectare area would be irrigated and more than 37 lakes would be filled, he said.</p>
