Boat patrolling on Cauvery, Kabini soon

Last Updated 14 April 2016, 20:08 IST

The Mysuru district police will soon start boat patrolling on the Cauvery and Kabini rivers to check illegal sand mining in water bodies in T Narsipur taluk in the district.

Reacting to media queries in the city on Thursday, Abhinav Khare, Superintendent of Police (SP), said that initially the patrolling in the rivers would be launched with a single motorboat.

“While a driver will be hired to operate the boat, police personnel will patrol the area. The tender process related to the purchase of the boat is in its final stage as the bids were opened on April 8. At least two boats are required for patrolling the two rivers as Cauvery and Kabini flow through the taluk. Another boat will be added at a later stage,” Khare said.

The officer clarified that the recent attack on the car of Divya Sara Thomas, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Nanjangud subdivision, by illegal sand transporters was a stray incident as those part of the sand mafia were not brave enough to take on the policemen.
