Addressing mediapersons, Vijay Pandey, vice president, Bosch Power Tools, said, nearly 600,000 tools are being sold every year.

Nearly 1.5 million carpenters across India have been using these easy to handle tools and even in rural areas the carpenters have realised the potential of the tools which has helped them gain confidence to earn more, he said.

Artisans in Mysore for instance are being identified and training for them is being imparted in the use of various tools like Mitre saw, cutoff saw, jigsaw, planer, circular saw and sander.

Since there is a huge handicraft sector in the city, tools have been specially designed for them called dremel, a design tool, which has multipurpose tool kit to do etching, engraving, carving, etc, said Pandey.

Each tool has many safety features and the company provides masks, gloves, goggles, jackets and shoes to the carpenters and artisans, he said.

Asked how carpenters could use power tools when there are power problems, Pandey said there are cordless tools which run on lithium batteries. Moreover, even with just four to six hours of power supply, the artisans are able to do a lot more work than by using conventional tools and also earn ten times more, he added.
