Call spl session, table Manipaddy report: BJP

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Kota Srinivasa Poojary on Tuesday demanded that the government should immediately convene a special session of the legislature and table the Anwar Manippady report on encroachment of Wakf properties.

The Karnataka High Court’s order on August 30 giving an ultimatum of four weeks to table the report was a slap on the face of the government. The court’s directive was definitely a message to the government that it was trying to suppress facts and avoiding tabling the report, Poojary told reporters.

The report had charged that Wakf properties to the tune of Rs two lakh crore had been encroached upon across the state and had named several state and national Congress leaders. Former Karnataka State Minority Commission chairman Anwar Manippady had submitted the report to the government in March 2012 when the BJP was in power.

"The high court has stated that it will take a serious view if the report is not tabled. The BJP will hold a statewide agitation if the report is not placed before the legislature,” Manipaddy who was present at the press meet said.

He demanded that the government should order a CBI probe into the findings of the report.
