Congress won’t politicise voter list revision: CM Siddaramaiah

Belagavi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Monday that Congress will not politicise the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by Election Commission of India (ECI). 

Speaking to reporters at Nandgad village in Khanapur taluk, Siddaramaiah said that the part is concerned about genuine voters and they should not be left out of voter rolls.

Reacting to allegations by MLA Janardhan Reddy that chief minister and his cabinet colleagues were looting the state, he said, Reddy looted wealth of the state and was in jail.  “The case pending before the Supreme Court. There he has no moral right to make allegations against us,” Siddaramaiah said.

He said state’s legal team was ready to make its stand in the Supreme Court as the suit filed by Maharashtra regarding the Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary dispute will come up for hearing on January 21. “We will question whether the issue of deciding states’ borders comes under the purview of the apex court.”

Speaking after inaugurating Sangolli Rayanna Museum (Veera Bhumi) at Nandgad, Siddaramaiah said that the government will also develop memorials of six other freedom fighters were executed along with freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna. He said Nandgad will be developed as a place of tourist attraction.

Chalukya Utsava

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also inaugurated Chalukya Utsava at Badami in Bagalkote district. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Rs 2,000 crore had been released for developing Badami. 

“I was defeated at Chamundi Assembly constituency. But the people of Badami elected me because of which I am chief minister today. I won’t forget you people,” Siddaramaiah said.
