Deputy Commissioner Ashwathnarayana Gowda held a preliminary meeting with the flour mill owners and rice merchants with regard to levy rice collection for the year 2009-10. DC said that another round of meeting will be held after the government sets the target for the year.

“Government collects levy rice so that rice can be distributed to poor people at subsidised rate. Flour mill owners and rice merchants must co-operate in this regard,” DC said and added and called upon the citizens to come forward to help the victims of flood in large numbers where crops worth crores have been lost.

Speaking at the meeting flour mill owners and merchants requested the district administration for relaxation in levy rice collection considering the decline in paddy cultivation in the district and various other problems confronted by the growers.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Mirja Akbarullah, Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director Basavaraju and others were present.
