Dedicate full decade for water conservation: HDK

Last Updated 16 December 2018, 16:40 IST

Flagging water scarcity as a factor which could limit the country's growth, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has given a clarion call for effective management of water.

“Water is becoming a scarce resource and is going to be a limiting factor for growth, in agriculture and other sectors. I suggest we dedicate a full decade for extensive and intensive water conservation efforts. Let us call it the 'water decade,' Kumaraswamy said in his speech at the Niti Aayog meeting here on Sunday.

“Water has to become a people’s movement. A substantial part of our resources need to be dedicated for water conservation and management. A mission mode with monitorable indicators has to be the way forward. Our government is fully ready to dedicate its efforts towards this”, he said.

The chief minister said the government had taken taken several steps to overcome this, like lake rejuvenation under 'Kere Sanjeevini,' a special initiative.
