Rudresh, a lecturer of ITI College in Kanakatte, fell in love with his student Ramya of  Shashivala village. She too reciprocated and the duo got married at the sub-registrar office in Banavara on February 25. Initially, the family members of Rudresh opposed the marriage and even attempted to break it by luring her parents with lucre, but in vain.

However, when it did not materialise, the village elders intervened and convinced family members of both the sides who solemnised the marriage.

Unfortunately, the relationship soured just after three months. Rudresh deserted her and returned to his village. In the meantime, Ramya came to know that her in-laws are trying to get him married to another girl.

She immediately arrived at her husband’s house  at Kadalamaga village on May 10 only to find the house locked.

Shocked Ramya gathered her grits and resorted to stage dharna in front of the house. The members of Stree Shakti Sanghas extended their support and joining her in the stir. Though the village elders of Kadalamaga are willing to broker peace among them, Rudresh and his family members are said to be absconding.

Ramya’s parents have now lodged a complaint with Town Police Station seeking justice for her.

A case has been registered.
