Digi-touch gives 'language of gods' a new spark

From quotes to epics, the Wikipedia-Sanskrit has 10,653 articles

Sanskrit enthusiasts and students can grab a delight of having more scholarly stuff on Sanskrit, starting from Sanskrit quotes to epics on Wikipedia-Sanskrit, with much more advanced options and applications now.

In an exhibition being held by Samskrutha Bharathi as a part of youth convention here, various web-based applications, fully devoted to Sanskrit, featured an array of products and applications which ensured the best prospects of the language of Gods’ own language, at the same time, mirroring the brilliant side of the technology.

Wikipedia-Sanskrit

Thanks to the efforts of Samskrutha Bharthi, Bangalore, the Wikipedia-Sanskrit is now more enriched with 10,653 articles, in contrast to 3000 articles way back in 2003.
With more advanced search options in wikipedia Sanskrit, and more inclusion of Sanskrit articles by Samskrutha Bharathi, it has been possible to surf more content in Sanskrit ranging from Sanskrit Subhashitas (quotable quotes) to the script of Sanskrit epics.

Samskrutha Bharathi (Bangalore) Convener Shubha speaking to Deccan Herald said that the centre gathers, filters and uploads the Sanskrit articles contributed by various experts, through proper channels. With the collaboration of Wikipedia-Sanskrit, a project was taken up by Samskrutha Bharathi, Delhi in 2011 and the uploading of articles was done by the Bangalore unit.

Sanskrit wikipedia stands at 124th position in content wise, among 228 language versions of Wikipedia and as many as 82,000 enthusiasts are actively using the portal. The portal has 577 editors, online and offline. Samskrutha Bharathi has housed specialised staff to upload the articles, filter the articles before placing it on the wikipedia and to control data redundancy.

The Wikipedia Sanskrit, along with other prominent features such as updates and articles, also offers ‘Wikisthrotah,’ ‘Wikisookthi,’ ‘Wikishabdakoshah’ and ‘Wikimedia Samanya’ - the archives of Sanskrit texts, collection of Sanskrit quotable quotes, Sanskrit dictionary and wikimedia commons (in Sanskrit), respectively.

Sanskrit web - edu portal

Bangalore based Vyoma Linguistic Labs Foundation Sales -Executive Manishanker Bharathwaj, who featured in his stall Sanskrit publications, said the organisation has been working in Bangalore towards the popularisation of Sanskrit, through technology. He told Deccan Herald about the Digital Sanskrit projects taken up by his organisation and said that the lab is devoted for the design and development of Sanskrit applications on the web.
