Furniture of AC office in Sakleshpur confiscated

Last Updated 23 February 2018, 18:56 IST

As per the court's directions, the furniture at the Assistant Commissioner's office here were confiscated, for not settling the compensation amount for the land acquired for UGD works, in the town, on Friday.

The authorities had acquired 23 guntas of land belonging to S S Devappagowda of Kappinakodi Layout on June 9, 2009, fixing Rs 1.8 lakh as compensation. However, Devappagowda approached the court, complaining that the compensation was not adequate.

The civil court, which heard the case in 2010, had directed a payment of Rs 49 lakh as compensation. The amount was paid in two instalments in five years, but Rs 8.82 lakh interest for the delay, was pending. Despite being directed by the court, the amount was not settled by the Assistant Commissioner, who passed the buck to the state government for the delay.

Though notices were issued, warning of confiscating the furniture, if the compensation was not settled, from February 11, 2017, the AC's office had neglected it. On Friday, the court officials directed confiscation of the furniture, including computers, monitors and others, sparing only a computer room, which had election-related details.

As Assistant Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy was busy in Mahamastakabhisheka works, advocate Sharada Kalingappa and others tried to mediate, but in vain. The confiscated articles were deposited with the court.

As all the chairs were confiscated, the staff had no chairs to sit in the office.
