Gift books to kids instead of bursting crackers: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday urged the people of the State to avoid bursting crackers this Deepavali.

While greeting the people on the festival of light, the chief minister stated in his message that burning crackers inconvenienced children, pregnant women and the elderly, besides birds and animals. It also caused sound and environmental pollution. “Instead of bursting crackers, let us gift books to children and enhance their knowledge,” he said.

In a statement, Home Minister G Parameshwara, too, requested people to shun crackers this Deepavali. “Let us celebrate the festival of light but not cause hardship to others,” he said and added that the Home department had taken all precautionary measures in this regard.
