The impasse between Governor H R Bhardwaj and the State government over the appointment of Lokayukta may end soon, as indicated by Bhardwaj at an event in the City on Friday.

After inaugurating the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Archaeological Survey of India, the Governor told reporters that he was open to discussing the issue with the chief minister.

However, Bhardwaj said, he would stick to his decision of not giving consent for appointing former chief justice S R Bannurmath to the post.
Bhardwaj said the chief minister would probably meet him in a week or ten days to discuss the issue.

“We are confident of resolving the issue at the first opportunity. I have told the chief minister that I’m open for a dialogue and has given an opportunity to help the government reconcile.”

The Governor said: “I will not let the government tone down the Lokayukta in Karnataka. The national mood is not to downgrade the anti-corruption institution, but to upgrade it,” he said.
