Govt collects Rs 27,235 crore in taxes

The State government is confident of mobilising resources necessary to fund its expenditure despite the national economy witnessing a slowdown in the current fiscal.

In the Mid-Year Review of State Finance report tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, the government stated that it will be able to mobilise enough resources for its expenditures if the current revenue collection trend continues for the full year.  Implementation of Official Pay Committee report (Rs 4,450 crores) and crop loan waiver scheme (Rs 3,630 crore) has placed a huge burdened on the government.

The government has been able to achieve 50 per cent of the targeted revenue receipts (own tax revenue). It has collected Rs 27,235 crore against the target of Rs 55,014 crore. It is expected that collection, from three of the four major tax sources, would surpass the budget targets by the end of the financial year: commercial taxes (excess of 1,400 crores), excise (Rs 450 crore) and motor vehicle (Rs 150 crore). However, collection under stamps and registration will only be able to meet the target, the report stated.

Besides, the report stated that the Union government has given permission to borrow Rs 7,000 crore from the open market till September. The government had sought permission to borrow Rs 15,455 crore. The government had borrowed Rs 1,800 crore till September.
Industrial security force

The Karnataka Industrial Security Force (KISF) that will provide security to important installations like water reservoirs, IT/BT companies and power generating units will be operational soon. The first batch of the KISF will complete their training within the next two weeks and will be deployed for work soon after.

This was announced by Home Minister R Ashoka, in reply to a question by K Govindaraj (Congress), in the Legislative Council on Tuesday.

The KISF presently has 1,735 police personnel who will deploy at important installations during the next two weeks. The police department is also set to recruit another 4,000 personnel soon.
Biometric systems

Welfare Minister A Narayanaswamy told the Council that biometric analysis systems were being installed at all hostels of the department.
