Last Updated 11 February 2015, 20:43 IST

The BJP on Wednesday accused the State government of  being “selective” in seizure of sugar factory godowns for not paying the amount due to sugar cane growers.

Sugar Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad told the Assembly that the godowns of six sugar factories had been seized for not paying the money due to farmers. The godowns include that of the Ghataprabha co-operative sugar factory run by Jarkiholi family.

Balachandra Jarkiholi, who has an interest in the factory, termed the action “politically motivated.” Opposition leader Jagadish Shettar sought to know the reason for not seizing the godowns of the sugar factories run by the Congress.

“You have not seized that which belongs D B Inamdar, who is from you party. Why has the government not seized all the 10 factories which owe money to the farmers? ” he said.

The six factories whose godowns have been seized are: Ghataprabha Co-operative Sugar Factory, Renuka Sugar factories, Byari Sugar Factory, Laila Sugar Factory and Shivasagar Sugar Factory.
