'Guv hijacked state legislature'

Chandregowda, in a press meet here on Saturday, said that the Governor’s act amounts to contempt of the Houses. “No Governor had resorted to such act in the country’s history. There was no break down of law and order in the State. The Cabinet and the Chief Minister were very much in action. And, above all, the Houses were in motion. Under such circumstances, where was the need of taking the issues to Delhi”, he asked.

Chandregowda also criticised former prime minister H D Deve Gowda for demanding the President’s rule in the State. The Supreme Court, in S R Bommai’s case has clearly said that the fate of the elected government should be decided on the floor of the House, and not on the corridors of the Raj Bhavan. On the Opposite parties’ demand for a CBI inquiry into illegal mining, Chandregowda said the mining had spread to many states in the country.

Even if Karnataka agreed for a CBI inquiry, the investigation could not be handled properly. The governments of other states where mining had been rampant should also agree to for CBI probe, he felt.
