HC seeks affidavit on textbooks delay

 
Hearing a petition by the Karnataka State Minority Educational Institutes Management Federation (KSMEIMF), which had moved the High Court over the delay, Justice Abdul Nazeer took the Government to task.

The Commissioner, Primary Education Department, who appeared before the Court in this connection admitted that there has been a delay on the part of the government but assured that the remaining 7.5 lakh books will be supplied within four weeks.

The contract to print the books has been outsourced to a few private firms, which is the prime reason for the delay. He also said of the total 1,46,11,000 indent of copies the State has so far supplied 1,38,60,803 textbooks as on September 13,2010.

He further submitted that most of the books have been supplied to Bangalore of which the Bangalore North’s demand of 3,57,000 copies has been met with 13,39,094 copies, while the demand of Bangalore South of 17,56,000 textbooks has been met with a supply of 17,32, 156 copies.

  The Bangalore rural’s indent for copies being 2,37,000 and the supply was 2,17, 982 books as on September 13, 2010.
