Sheena Shetty, cleanliness ambassador for Dakshina Kannada, has written to the deputy commissioner and the Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer to organise a mass cleanliness drive in the district.

He has requested that the drive be organised in all 230 gram panchayats and 10 ULBs in Dakshina Kannada in order to create awareness on exercising franchise along with clearing the garbage thrown in open spaces in the district.

In the letter, Shetty has said that, on the aspirations of the district SVEEP Committee to increase poll percentage in the district, the Madari Gramabhivriddhi Andolana has been motivating people to exercise their franchise.

‘Collect trash’

To motivate the voters to take part in the ‘democracy festival’, a one-day mass cleanliness drive should be organised and all the trash collected should be sent to solid waste management units to dispose of it scientifically, he requested.

He also appealed to the deputy commissioner and the chief executive officer to make villages and urban areas free from garbage by organising cleanliness drives along with motivating eligible citizens to vote.

Awareness drive

Savayava Sante, meanwhile, will organise a voters’ awareness campaign at Managudde on March 31, April 7 and 14.

Rajesh of ECO – Friends’ Group said that handbills and stickers will be distributed, appealing to voters to exercise their franchise.
