JD(S) rebels: HC reserves order on disqualification

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday reserved its order on the petition seeking disqualification of seven rebel MLAs of JD(S). The Speaker’s counsel informed the court that he (Speaker) cannot pass any order in this regard until the completion of the upcoming election.

Justice Raghavendra Chauhan was hearing a petition filed by JD(S) MLAs C N Balakrishna and B B Ningaiah seeking disqualification of the seven MLAs who voted against the party’s candidate in the 2016 Rajya Sabha election, violating the whip.

The bench observed that the Speaker has to pass an order before May 12, failing which the petition will become infructuous.
