Kala Mela lends colour to Bahuroopi, draws big crowd

The second day of ‘Bahuroopi-2019’ National Theatre Fest, organised by Rangayana at its premises, attracted a large number of theatre and art lovers, on Sunday.

For the first time, a ‘Kala Mela’, a painting exhibition-cum-sale was organised on the sidelines of Bahuroopi-2019. Around 25 artists from the city have displayed various types of paintings and handicrafts products at the expo.

A variety of paintings, including traditional paintings of Mysore and Thanjavur style, landscape, creative, abstract, figurative, folklore and among others are on display in the expo.

Speaking to DH, Principal of Sri Kalanikethan School of Arts Mahadevshetty said, “The artists have displayed a number of unique paintings in this exhibition. The size of paintings ranges from 1x1 ft to 6x4 ft. There is a good response from the general public for the Kala Mela,” he said.

Artists T S Murali, R Shivakumar and Devaraj, who have displayed landscape, traditional and realistic paintings at their stalls, said, “For the first time Rangayana has provided an opportunity for their artists to display their creations during Bahuroopi. There is a positive response from the public.”

Rangayana Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam said, “Rangayana, which concentrates on theatre activities, is also supporting other art forms like paintings and handicrafts by organising Kala Mela.”

The members of Sri Shalivahana Vividoddesha Kaigarika Sahakara Sangha also exhibited various types of pottery works including lamps and other decorative items.

The booksellers, food vendors and garment vendors have also displayed their products in the exhibition stalls on the premises of Rangayana.

During the day, movies like ‘No More Boys and Girls - Can Our Kids Go Gender Free’, directed by Samuel Palmer, ‘Feminists: What are they thinking’, directed by Johanna Demetrakas, and ‘Dogvillie’ directed by Lars Von Trier were screened at Sriranga.
