<p>Belagavi: Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Wednesday admitted in the Legislative Council that there is corruption in the Revenue and Survey department, but said that “it is at the lower level.”</p>.<p>Expressing helplessness over curbing the corruption, the minister stated that the corruption was there earlier too. “It is not easy to prevent corruption at the lower level. It existed earlier too and continues now also, but we are trying to check it,” he stated.</p>.<p>The minister was replying to the issue raised by Congress MLC Ramoji Gowda regarding delay in issuing Phodi extracts to farmers.</p>.<p>Responding to the question raised by BJP MLC Shashil Namoshi on introduction of e-Khata, Gowda justified the decision saying, “I am here to stop irregularities and not to support corruption. They used to make fake documents and charge Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 for registration. It is my belief that despite knowing that it is illegal, we should not support it,” Gowda said.</p>.<p>However, admitting the fact that there were inconveniences in the beginning when e-Khata was introduced, Gowda informed the House that 90 per cent of the transition problem has been solved.</p>.<p>“Yes, we struggled in the beginning and we were able to dispose of only 300 applications of the 15,000 received. But now things have come to normalcy and BBMP has issued over 54,000 e-Khatas so far. It is issuing around 3,000 every day,” he claimed.</p>.<p>Gowda told the House that e-Khata had helped prevent corruption at the municipal administration level.</p>
