Bengaluru: Pre-University courses (PUC 2) in the state witnessed record results with 81.15 per cent of students clearing the exams, which is a six percentage point increase compared with last year’s pass rate of 74.67 per cent.

Out of the 6,81,079 candidates who took the exams, 5,52,690 cleared the exams. A total of 17,299 were absent due to various reasons.

N Manjushree, chairperson of Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB), attributed the success to the 80:20 method introduced this year.

“This approach allocates 80 marks for theory and 20 for internal assessment. Even in theory papers, the initial 20 marks are for one-word answers and multiple choice questions, making it easier for students to score,” he said.

All these years, practical marks were considered only for Science subjects. From the March/April 2024 exams, this has been extended to arts and commerce streams.

As a result, the pass percentages in these streams have reached 68.36 per cent and 80.94 per cent, respectively.

Students who are not happy with their results have the opportunity to appear for two more exams conducted by the KSEAB. The second examination will be held between April 29 and May 16.

Announcing the results on Wednesday, KSEAB officials said the marks cards of students who do not opt for a second examination will be issued within 30 days. The same can also be downloaded immediately from Digi-Locker.

Meanwhile, officials clarified that the KCET results will be announced only after the declaration of PUC 2 results.

“We have taken the KEA into confidence and requested to announce KCET results only after the declaration of results of the second examination,” said Ritesh Kumar, principal secretary of Dept of School Education and Literacy.
