The 19 Koraga families who were leading a pathetic life at Abbedi in Nadsalu, Padubidri, for the last five years will finally get land at Padebettu.

Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis identified 95 cents DC manna land for the families near Padebettu school. The title deeds of the said land will be issued within a month.

The district administration has chalked out a plan to construct houses for these families in the land identified. The DC had, in turn, discussed it with an NGO.

The construction of the houses will commence shortly and the families will get a new roof over their heads by the next monsoon.

These Koraga families were residing in different parts of Padubidri gram panchayat. During the Suzlon project, they lost their land. As the authorities failed to get suitable land to rehabilitate them, they have been living in huts near the Suzlon colony.

Vishwanath, an officer from Udupi ITDP said, “Under ITDP, houses will be constructed for the 19 families at a cost of Rs 2 lakh each. We have placed a demand before the Syndicate Bank to share its CSR fund for the additional cost required for the house. The bank has responded positively to the demand.”
