<p>Mangaluru, DHNS: The police have booked cases against three persons for transporting cattle illegally for slaughter at Suralpady mosque, in Bajpe police station limits, in the wee hours of Friday.</p><p>Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said acting on tip off, the police intercepted a white mini goods vehicle. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver and two others attempted to flee, abandoning the vehicle at the scene.</p><p>On inspection, the police found that the vehicle did not have a number plate. Inside, approximately 15-20 cattle were found tied in a cruel manner.</p>.Cow slaughter illegal even if accused not owner of premises: SC.<p>The police secured the vehicle and transported it to the station. Veterinary officials were called to examine the animals, and two were found to have succumbed to injuries. The surviving cattle were given necessary medical care.</p><p>The Commissioner said preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle's original registration number was KA 19 AF 1399. The suspected individuals involved in the transport have been identified as Tauseef Peradi and Harine Peradi, while one more person is yet to be identified.</p><p><strong>Allegations of threat</strong></p><p>During the investigation of the illegal cattle transport case, it was reported that the vehicle (without a number plate) used for cattle transportation, was allegedly followed by an Innova vehicle between Yedapadavu and Suralpady .</p><p>Chandan, the driver of the Innova vehicle alleged that the driver of the vehicle used for cattle transport threatened him by showing a firearm.</p><p>Upon police inspection of the scene, no visible evidence of firearm was found. Further examination of the Innova vehicle also did not reveal any signs of gunfire damage. Also, CCTV footage at the scene also did not show any such firearm being used at the spot.</p><p>Further investigation is underway.</p><p><strong>MLA flays</strong></p><p>Condemning the incident of illegal transportation of cattle, Mangalore City North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty alleged that cases of illegal cattle slaughter and smuggling are on the rise in Dakshina Kannada district.</p><p>This apathy has forced the organisations such as Bajrang Dal, to do police's work of tracking and expose such activities.</p><p>Criminals are fearlessly transporting cattle in broad daylight, raising doubts about the enforcement of law and order in the state. Neglecting illegal cattle slaughter and smuggling cases could disrupt social stability and law enforcement, he warned.</p><p>During the BJP government’s tenure, strict legal action was taken against illegal slaughterhouses and cattle smuggling, including property seizures, which had effectively curbed illegal cattle trade and slaughter in the region.</p><p>However, after the Congress government came to power, illegal slaughterhouses have begun operating openly within residential areas, and cattle thefts has resumed unchecked, he said.</p><p>To appease a particular community, the government is turning a blind eye to such cases, indirectly encouraging cattle thieves and illegal slaughterhouses. </p><p>The MLA warned that if Hindu organisations take the law into their hands against these offenders in future, then the government will be held responsible.</p>
