MBA institutes against centralised admission

Briefing their stand against the government move at a press meet here on Friday, Kaizen Eduplus Society Honorary Chairman N A Charantimath said centralisation of the MBA entrance exams and counselling process would affect the progress of the North Karnataka students, and add to the burden on the parents.

The number of students opting for the MBA course from the NK region would also come down if the government centralised the system and conducted counselling in Bangalore alone.

He said, the government, in its order, has announced that the KEA would be conducting the State-level CET for selection of candidates to MBA, MCA, ME and MTech programmes for the year 2011-12  for the government quota seats. Moreover, the order also stated that if the private colleges wanted, the government could also hold the CET for them.

But, said Charantimath, the change would not only cause inconvenience to more than 10,000 MBA aspirants from the NK region, but also be a financial burden on the students. Counselling should be held simultaneously in Belgaum or Hubli along with Bangalore, he demanded.

He said a delegation would meet Higher Education Minister V S Acharya and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to apprise them about the need for continuing the existing counselling system.

Rajagopal, Director, DVHIMSR, said injustice was meted out to NK region soon by taking away the counselling centre from Belgaum. Rather than forcing 10,000 students and parents to visit Bangalore for counselling, around 10 persons visiting Belgaum or Hubli and conducting counselling would be more viable, he added.

GBS Director Prashanth Yatgiri said that when students of NK region have been excelling and proving their skills in the management field, the region should be given priority and encouragement. Counselling should be made in a decentralised set up so that more number of students are benefited.
