Mobile labs to check taxi, auto meters

Each mobile lab (a Maruti van) will also have working standard weights, measures, length measure and digital working balance, one net content checking unit to check packaged commodities.

The lab will be manned by an Inspector of Legal Metrology and will carry out on the spot verification of weights and measures, besides authenticity of auto and taxi fare meters.
The mobile labs were launched by Food and Civil Supplies Minister H Halappa in Bangalore. Presently, three mobile labs will be allotted to Bangalore and one each to Hubli-Dharwad and Mysore. Similar units will be provided in all district in a phased manner, Controller of Legal Metrology D Basavaraj said.
