The Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (Nice) is in the process of forming an “illegal” layout at Varahasandra near Kengeri, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda said on Monday.

Gowda said Nice had levelled around 10 acres of agriculture land at Varahasandra to form a layout and  landowners/farmers knocked on his doors on Sunday, he said.

“After meeting them, I called Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and urged him to immediately put a stop to the activities there, and also give police protection to the farmers. He has responded positively,” he added. He also claimed that Ashok Kheny, Managing Director of Nice was involved in international land mafia. Gowda said he had urged the House Committee looking into the illegalities of the Nice projects, to make a spot visit to Varahasandra. The Committee headed by Law Minister T B Jayachandra, had however made little headway, and was nowhere close to submitting its report, he added. He also welcomed the Supreme Court’s move to strike down the National Judiciary Appointments Commission (NJAC), and said this had come at a time when there was a trust deficit concerning politicians.
