<p>Mangaluru: During the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mcc">MCC</a> council meeting on Thursday, the opposition Congress posed strong objections to several issues, including utilisation of premium FIR funds for MG Road Ballal Bagh bridge development work.</p><p>As the agenda was taken for the discussion, the opposition member Abdul Ravoof pointed out that there was no provision for bridge development work under premium FIR funds. </p><p>Opposition member A C Vinay Raj too objected and accused the MCC officials of including the work in the agenda despite knowing it was against the guidelines.</p><p>Council Whip Premananda Shetty said that the work has been proposed as a priority work, in order to prevent flooding in the low-lying regions nearby. However, regular funds will be utilised for the work instead of premium FIR funds. The work is estimated at Rs 1.99 crore, he assured.</p>.Railway Board approves extension of Mangaluru-Kabaka passenger train to Subrahmanya.<p><strong>No NOC for Optical Fiber Cables (OFC)</strong></p><p>The Congress members opposed the proposal to provide No Objection Certificates (NOC) to the OFC and Cable TV operators allowing them to place optical fiber cables on the electric poles. </p><p>The members said that the bundles of cable hung on the poles have not only been causing damage to the pole but also causing disturbance for the maintenance of the electric lines. After discussion, the proposal was rejected.</p><p>The proposal to hand over the maintenance of the Central playground in Santosh Nagar in Pacchanady ward to Veer Savarkar Friends, faced strong opposition by the Congress members. They urged that the MCC should maintain the playground by itself and should not hand it over to the third party without knowing about the background of its members.</p><p>Mayor justified that even other playgrounds such as Nehru Maidan and Urwa Maidan too have been handed over to third parties.</p><p>Other BJP members criticised that the name 'Veer Savarkar' has irked the opposition.</p>
