Pothole filling machine evokes lukewarm response

A Pune-based company, which gave a demonstration of filling potholes in the city on Monday, failed to evoke a good response from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities.

The officials said that it might cost more when compared to manually filling potholes which is being currently used.

The machine, manufactured by Road King Company, was brought to the city for a demonstration. MCC Commissioner G Jagadish and Mayor M J Ravikumar were present during the demonstration at Lokaranjan Mahal Road on Monday. The machine was used to fill a few potholes but the time taken by the machine was 30 minutes. While the expenses to fill a pothole is said to be around Rs 600 per sq ft manually, filling it by the machine costs Rs 2,500 per sq ft. Hence, the MCC is not showing interest, sources said.

Speaking to DH, MCC Commissioner G Jagadish confirmed that the expenses for filling the potholes by machine are high. "However, the quality of works should be studied before taking any decision. Now, only a couple of potholes have been filled, using the machine. The potholes would be inspected after two months to check the quality. The company has given a proposal. However, no decision has been taken in this regard," he said.
