Power sharing formula in Karnataka Congress govt is media creation: Singhvi

Mysuru: AICC spokesman Abhishiek Manu Singhvi said, the power sharing formula in the Karnataka Congress government is a media creation and nothing such is happening - either in the party or in the government.

Addressing a media conference, in Mysuru, on Saturday, Singhvi said, media speculations or reports are just to create sensation.

“The issue is beyond my limits. The party high-command should take a call on such issues. But, there is no issue of power sharing or change in leadership, among the leaders in Karnataka Congress. The government is stable and is giving good governance. Any decision in the party will be a collective one, in the interest of the party and the nation,” he said.

In reply to a question on the north-south divide on the delimitation of electoral constituencies, Singhvi said, the problem lies in the imposition of it without consulting the stakeholders.

“There is no discussion on the issue. It is affecting the spirit of federalism. The BJP is telling that there will be no decrease in the number of seats in the South, but is not telling that there will be no increase in the North,” he said.

Responding to a question on EVMs, Singhvi said, it is not about the EVMs per se, but about the process that includes the EVMs.

“In Maharashtra, there was an increase in the number of voters, by 43 lakh people in just four months from the Lok Sabha election to the Assembly election. How will the BJP explain this? The same thing is happening in West Bengal. But, the BJP is not listening to other parties. We are seeking a verification of a sample of at least 25 per cent of the voters list, but the BJP is sticking to 5 per cent as per an earlier Supreme Court order,” he pointed out.

Singhvi said the election results are skewed due to various factors of late. “There are various reasons for the defeat of the Congress in some elections. There have been strange alliances of the ruling party. Its alliance is with government investigation and enforcing agencies,” he added.

Replying to a question on the 4 per cent quota announced by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for Muslim contractors, Singhvi said, if the BJP or anybody have a problem with it, they can go to the court. “That is the beauty of democracy. But, Siddaramaiah has done it in a transparent way,” he said.
