<p>Pre-monsoon showers continued in parts of South interior Karnataka, resulting in rainfall in several parts of the region, on Saturday.<br /><br />Meteorological department said that the rains were due to fluctuations in temperature and humidity, resulting in changes in clouds, in the region.<br />The department has also forecasted that the post-monsoon showers will continue in the region during the next week.<br /><br />One person died due to a lightning strike at Kadanga-Arepattu village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district. The deceased has been identified as Kodeera Nanaiah (55).<br /><br />Three persons are reported to have been injured due to lightning strike in Sakleshpur of Hassan district. Parts of Sakleshpur taluk, received 23.5 mm of rains during the day, accompanied by thunder and lightning.<br /><br />In Chamarajanagar, Kollegal received maximum rainfall. It recorded 42.5 mm rainfall during the day. Parts of Chamarajanagar taluk too received 14 mm of isolated rainfall.<br />In Mysore district, Nanjangud received 39 mm of scattered rainfall, with rains expected to continue during the night.<br /><br />Mysore taluk too received scattered rainfall, with 27.5 mm rainfall recorded at Kadakola in the taluk. T Narsipur taluk recorded 26.5 mm of scattered rainfall.</p>.<p><br />In Mandya district, maximum rainfall was recorded at Malavalli with 21 mm of rainfall during the day. Several other parts of the district too received rainfall during the day.<br />As compared to other districts, rainfall was relatively sparse in Kodagu, with parts of Madikeri and Somwarpet receiving 5.5 mm and 3.5 mm of rainfall.<br /><br />Crops damaged due to hailstorm<br /><br />Crops worth lakhs of rupees, of various varieties, have been damaged due to the hailstorms, coupled with high-intensity winds, that lashed the villages around Kanakatte, in the taluk, on Friday night.<br /><br />Ramappa, a farmer, said that around 800 plantain plants on his fields have been damaged due to the rains.<br /><br />“Most of the yield was ready for harvest and I had planned to sell them in a couple of days. Now that the plantains have turned black, there will be no takers,” he said.<br />Another farmer Halappa said, he had lost 500 plantains and 450 pomegranate plants, incurring a huge loss due to rains.<br /><br />Similarly, coconut and pomegranate crops have been damaged in Narasipura, Jannavara, Hirisadaradalli and other villages under Kanakatte hobli.<br /><br />The kalnar sheet roof, including steel pipes used for reinforcing, of a community hall, near Sri Shaneshwara temple at Hirisadaradalli, has been damaged.<br /><br />The sheets and pipes were found some 100 metres away from the hall. Roof tiles of over 50 houses have been damaged in the same village.<br /><br />However, the summer showers have brought some respite from the sweltering heat. Some farmers have started tilling their lands for a summer crop.<br /></p>
