Rajyotsava a low-key affair in Kodagu

Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda hoisted the flag in the Kote premises. Though Minister for Small Industries and Sericulture Venkataramanappa was expected to take part in the function, he was absent due to the political crisis in the government, and hence the DC himself hoisted the flag.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said Rs 6 crore has been released to the district for immediate relief works following natural calamities. A sum of Rs 9 lakh has been distributed to the kin of the dead as a result of the nature’s fury, he said. A sum of Rs 11.20 crore and Rs 4.25 crore have been released for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Akshara Dasoha respectively to the district where 59,365 children are being benefited, he said. A sum of Rs 2,986.11 lakh has been granted to the district under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme where a total of 6781 projects have been taken up. A sum of Rs 3.28 crore has been spent in the district to implement Samporna Swacchata Andolan, Gowda said.

A sum of Rs 1.76 crore has been released under Suvarna Gramodaya scheme, while Rs 85.9 lakh has been spent under Swarnajayanthi Gram Sarojgar scheme. Skill development training has been imparted to 200 individuals under the scheme, he explained. The district has a target of constructing 9,605 houses under the housing scheme out of which 4516 houses are complete. Rs 1206.93 lakh has been released for the purpose out of which Rs 940.87 lakh has been spent. A total of 2,819 antyodaya ration cards, 43,979 Akshaya ration cards and 32,227 APL cards have been distributed in the district, he said.
Police and NCC cadets conducted a march past. MLC M C Nanaiah, Zilla Panchayat President V M Vijaya, Additional DC Chandre Gowda, ZP Chief Executive Officer Mirza Aqbarulla, SP Manjunath Annigeri among others were present.
