<p>Tumakuru: As the clock struck 12 at midnight, revellers in Tumakuru ushered in the new year by cutting the cake and eating it too. Many had been eagerly waiting since Tuesday late night to ring in the new year and as the countdown began in many hotels, resorts and even clubs, revellers cheered to no end to wish Happy New Year.</p><p>In fact, the police had allowed new year revelry until 12.30 am. At Many places, the police were seen asking the crowd to get back home after cutting the cake at 12 midnight. But, in a few localities, celebrations continued until Wednesday morning. </p><p>Bakeries were busy tending to orders for the new year. Some of the popular bakeries in MG Road, B H Road, SS Puram Road and Kunigal road had already baked varieties of cakes and had put them on sale. Some bakeries even had cake exhibition and sale in front of their stores. People were seen queuing up to buy these delicacies. </p><p>The markets had been witnessing brisk business since three days. The police have restricted entry to tourist places including Namada Chilume, Devarayanadurga Hills and Basadi Betta. The prohibitory orders will be in place up to January 2, 8 am. </p><p>The police have been keeping strict vigil to ensure law and order during the celebration. Additional police had been deployed at prominent roads. Besides, 100 home guards and two platoons of KSRP have also been deployed to ensure security during New Year celebrations. </p><p><strong>In Kolar </strong></p><p>Over 500 police personnel and officers kept a watch on revellers, besides, two battallions of KSRP and 4 platoons of DAR were deployed to ensure law and order in place. An additional 200 home guards have also been deployed for the purpose, said SP Nikhil B.</p><p>A special drive was carried out in the city and rural areas to check on drunk driving and over speeding in the name of revelry. Meanwhile, tourists are flocking various tourist places in the district. Pilgrimage centres like Antaragange, Koti Linga, Chikka Tirupati, Kurudumale, Aavani Mulabagilu Anjayneya Temple, Kolaramma Temple and Someshwara temple.</p><p><strong>In Chikkaballapur</strong></p><p>People welcomed the new year by bursting crackers in many parts of the city on Tuesday. Many of them cut cakes and shared the sweets with their friends and families.</p><p>It was the bakeries that saw a brisk business in the city. About hundreds of cakes were on display and sale at many bakeries in the city. While some had booked their cakes with customisation, days earlier, a few had to take whatever was available on display.</p><p>Yet, these cakes were sold in no time and bakeries had a busy day on Tuesday. It is expected to continue even on Wednesday, too. “Like every year, this year too, we have designed and prepared around 600 cakes with some of the favourite flavour and designs. It’s a busy day,” said a bakery owner in Chikkaballapur. </p><p>Markets too were crowded and shops in Bazar Road, Karkhane Pet road, Gangammana Gudi road had a beeline of customers. </p>
