Sufficient fertilizer available in Karnataka: Anupriya Patel tells Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel on Friday informed Lok Sabha that there is no shortage of fertilizers including urea in Karnataka during the current kharif season.

Replying to Chitradurga Lok Sabha member Govind Karjol, the minister said for the current total 11.17 lakh tonne urea required for the current kharif season and in which 8.28 lakh tonne distributed to farmers and 97,000 tonne available with the state.

Like DAP (66,000 tonne), MOP (57,000 tonne) and NPKS (3.70 lakh tonne) available in the state, she said.

Patel said before the commencement of each cropping season, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), in consultation with all the State assesses the state-wise and month-wise requirement of fertilizers.

On the basis of requirement, the Department of Fertilizers allocates adequate quantities of fertilizers to States by issuing a monthly supply plan and continuously monitors the availability.

“The movement of all major subsidized fertilizers is monitored throughout the country by an on-line web-based monitoring system called Integrated Fertilizer Monitoring System (iFMS),” the Minister said.

Replying to Davangere Lok Sabha Member Prabha Mallikarjun, the Minister said a total five cases have been registered against those selling spurious fertilizers in Haveri and Bagalkot districts this year so far.
