State Congress president G Parameshwara on Wednesday said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) should direct the government not to implement programmes and schemes which have been announced in the last three months.

Speaking to reporters after the ECI announced the calendar of events for the Assembly elections in the State, Parameshwara said that the BJP government had announced various programmes which had no budgetary support. The ECI should direct the government not to give effect to those programmes which are not part of the budget, but announced in the last three months, he said.

Sources said Parameshwara and Siddaramaiah would meet Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Thursday to discuss the shortlisted candidates’ list. The party’s screening committee is yet to hold its sitting to go through the list of names prepared by the State election committee.
