<p>Bengaluru: The National Green Tribunal has threatened to increase the cost from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000, taking exception to the Belagavi district administration's failure to submit a report on the alleged pollution of Maharashtra's surface and ground waters by an industry in the district. </p>.<p>The NGT's southern zone bench of Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana and expert member Satyagopal Korlapati was hearing a petition by Shahu Shivaji Mokahi, a resident of Nangnur in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, who had accused the Hiranyakeshi Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane situated in Sankeshwar of discharging its molasses into the waters of the Hiranyakeshi river, thereby polluting the surface and groundwater.</p>.NGT seeks BWSSB reply over sewage pumped into lake.<p>On June 26, the bench had imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on the deputy commissioner for failing to submit a report on the matter despite granting multiple opportunities.</p>.<p>When the matter came up for hearing on July 23, the bench expressed dismay at the deputy commissioner.</p>.<p>"The report of the deputy commissioner, Belagavi, has not yet been filed, even though it was recorded that the same would be accepted only upon payment of Rs 25,000......However, we give a final opportunity to the deputy commissioner to file his report on or before 14.08.2025, failing which the same will be received on payment of Rs 50,000," it said.</p>
