<p>Thiruvananthapuram: The <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/kerala-high-court">Kerala High Court </a>on Thursday directed the Centre and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to consider waving the loan dues of those hit by the 2024 landslide.</p><p>The move has come amidst strong protest against the Centre's stand that the loan dues of Wayanad landslide victims could not be waived.</p>.Township for Wayanad landslide victims is a first step rehabilitation, says Priyanka Gandhi.<p>Congress leader and Wayanad MP <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/priyanka-gandhi">Priyanka Gandhi Vadra </a>said that the Centre betrayed the people of Wayanad. </p><p>"Wayanad landslide victims have lost everything—homes, land, livelihoods. Yet, the government refuses to offer even a loan waiver. Instead, they get mere loan rescheduling and restructuring. This is not relief. This is a betrayal," she said in a social media post adding that the plight of the people would be raised at all platforms until justice was served.</p>.<p>Kerala revenue minister K Rajan said that as many as 779 families hit by the landslide had a total of 1,207 loans with dues amounting to Rs. 30.62 crore. </p><p>The Kerala State Cooperative Bank (Kerala Bank) already waived the loans of the landslide affected people, he said.</p><p>A division bench of the HC said that even as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) could not direct the banks to waive the loan dues, the Centre and NDMA could issue directives considering the gravity of the calamity. </p><p>The Centre had informed in an affidavit on Wednesday that there was provision only to restructure and rescheduling the loans and there was no provision for waiving.<br></p>
